As usual, the largest groups of crimes in the Rockridge beats were property crimes and auto-related property crimes. Overall numbers of crime are down, but I still don’t know if that’s related to the drop in database size a couple of months ago. They are substantially up (almost double) over the totals listed in June and July. Total crime reports in beat 12Y were 41 in August and 45 in September; in beat 13X, August had 11 and September had 14. Crimes against the person have been on the high end of what I’m used to seeing.

No OPD officers attended. We had a brief presentation on the Community Policing Advisory Board (CPAB), by Ingrid Severson-Tondre, a member of the CPAB board. We also discussed some apparent irregularities in the city’s crime statistics database, identified by Karen Ivy during her monthly crime stats report.

I have serious problems with these statistics, which I have reported to OPD. The revised report for June shows substantially fewer reported crimes than the original report – some June crime reports have disappeared from the database. I expected to see a small increase. The original June report showed 70 crime reports in 12Y and 5 in 13X; the new report (as you can see in the header) shows 25 crime reports in 12Y and 8 in 13X. This is also a problem for the entire city. Sometime between the 5th of July, when I did the initial June report, and the 5th of August, when I did this report, the total number of records in the database decreased by 7,761 records. This is for the entire city, for 90 days. I checked the number of records for June in the database in both downloads, which I have, and the August 5 download had 414 fewer records of crime reports than the July 5 download. I’m afraid I do not trust this data, but I send it out because it’s all I have.
