New Vice Chair for the NCPC

The Greater Rockridge Neighborhood Crime Prevention Council announces that we have a new Vice Chair. He is Saeid Kian, a relatively new resident of Rockridge. Saeid joined us in December because he is concerned about crime in the community and wants to participate in local effects to reduce it, and to work on connecting the citizens and the police toward that end.

We all know that the principal type of crime in Rockridge is property crime. But the November revision has really demonstrated that. In November beat 12Y had 83 crime reports, of which 50 were auto-related crime and 22 were ordinary property crime (theft, burglaries, etc.). The 50 auto related property crime figure is a one month maximum for the year. Beat 13X had 20 crime reports, of which 10 were ordinary property crime and 6 were auto-related.
December wasn’t quite as bad as November. Beat 12Y had 78 crime reports, of which 37 were auto-related property crime and 20 were ordinary property crime. Beat 13X had 27 crime reports, 12 auto-related property and 8 regular property crime.
Both these monthly figures were increases over September and October, neither of which exceeded more than around 70 total crime reports, with ordinary property crime 16 or less and auto-related crime 26 or less. Exact numbers for November and December are in the PDFs.

No CROs attended the meeting, and only about half a dozen people, including 2 on Zoom. Karen Ivy explained the crime statistics she publishes monthly for the Rockridge area. We informally discussed possible actions for a resident who has a homeless person sleeping in a truck on his street. We also discussed actions the NCPC might consider to have some effect on crime in the area, which seemed to be down somewhat.
