The June numbers are still the high for the year for both beats. July (revised) had 105 reports in 12Y (about 50 less than June); 13X had about the same number of reports. See the reports for details. August numbers (first round) were slightly higher than revised July numbers for 12Y (118 up from 105) and about the same in 13X. I wonder if the delay in reporting is going away. I’ll continue doing revised reports for awhile.
As usual, the largest crime classes, in descending order, are auto-related property crimes, and then ordinary property crimes (burglaries and thefts). Crimes against the person were higher in 12Y than 13X, but lower in both months, and in both beats, than in the June report. The third biggest class in 12Y is quality of life crimes, which are mainly vandalism. We had 2 “other” reports in 12Y in August – both incidents involving weapons and possible GBI, but no suggestion anyone was shot. Beat 12Y had one unexplained death in July, which I understand was probably not a provable homicide.

The Greater Rockridge Neighborhood Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) needs a Vice Chair. We’re now back to hybrid meetings (in person and Zoom), which means someone has to be in the room to run the meeting. We meet at 7:00 PM on the second Thursday of even-numbered months. Meetings usually last 1.5 – 2 hours. Our bylaws say:
Chair: The Chair will run both the community meetings and meetings of the Steering Committee, and will represent the NCPC in other community meetings. The Chair may delegate specific areas of responsibility to the Vice Chair.
Vice Chair: The Vice Chair will assist the Chair as needed.
If you would be interested in serving on this committee, which has been operating continuously since 2002, when Oakland established its Community Policing Program, please email us at

This was a hybrid meeting, using the OWL. It was also the annual joint meeting with Rockridge Community Planning Council (RCPC). There were more people on Zoom than in the room. The main speaker was Elliott Jones from MACRO, describing how the service has developed and where it’s going. Captain Lisa Ausmus, the new permanent area 2 captain, held a brief question and answer period with the attendees.
