Numbers for January seem to show that, although crimes against the person are up slightly, all other kinds of crime are down. However, I believe (and others who study this agree with me) that the numbers aren’t complete. Specifically, between 1/19/22 and 1/30/22, the file shows a total of 4 reported crimes of any sort in beat 12Y! Four reported crimes in 11 days, in beat 12Y, is unbelievable. Beat 13X showed a total of 22 crimes for the month, also oddly distributed, but for beat 13X this isn’t that unusual.
I’ve reported this issue to the city (and to any other Neighborhood Council members who may follow these data). I have yet to hear from anyone about corrections to the data, so I’m publishing what I have, with this warning. If and when I get a more complete file of reported crimes for either or both beats, I will report the month again later.

Crimes against the person were down in both beats in December. Property crimes spiked in 12Y, from 13 to 26, and in 13X, from 8 to 13. Auto related property crimes were only slightly up in 12Y, 34 to 35, but up a little more in 13X, 9 to 12. Quality of life crimes were about the same in both beats. December had 4 “other” incidents in 12Y, all public use of unauthorized weapons, no indication anyone was injured or killed.
12Y had 2 incidents with multiple charges, both involving crimes against the person and a deadly weapon other than a firearm. 13X had 1 incident with multiple charges, both property crimes, auto theft and grand theft.
